The Dell Inspiron i5378-5743GRY comes in a thin and light 360degrees flip design. It’s available in dark grey or matte black design, we love the matte black option as it has a premium look and feel. The design aesthetics are what you would expect from a 2 in 1 laptop. It’s a sleek and functional design with a strong hinge-dell actually claims they test their hinges by twisting and turning them over 25,000 times! Obviously, we did not get to turn ours those many times but the hinge feels solid and we have to take Dell’s word for its durability.

The laptop is a 2 in 1, therefore, it can be used in laptop, tent or stand mode. Flipping the screen all the way down is effortless and it gets completely flat when in tablet mode which is nice for media consumption like YouTube.

The bezel around the display panel is very thin on the Dell Inspiron i5378-5743GRY which is great as you get more screen real estate and makes the laptop have a modern and eye-catching look.

Other notable features of the Dell Inspiron 5378 include: 128 GB SSD Storage-Read and write speeds are decent for this SSD, up to 1200 read and 900 Mbps write speeds. This SSD is mounted on a serial ATA-600 interface on the motherboard.

Audio-The inbuilt audio on the Dell Inspiron i5378-5743GRY is great. This laptop has stereo speakers and a microphone using the Realtek ALC3253 audio codec. The audio is crystal clear and fairly loud thanks to the MaxxisAudio pro-technology included for audio enhancement.

Input devices

The full qwerty keyboard on the Dell Inspiron i5378-5743GRY is very nice. The keys are well spaced out and tactile. Key travel is great and backlighting is a nice addition too especially for usage in moderately dark environments.

The trackpad is also quite responsive; we did not experience any lagging or skipping at all while using this trackpad. It is pretty accurate and generally does its job well. It’s not entirely amazing and features packed like what you could get in say a MacBook but it’s decent and sufficient.

This laptop comes with a full HD(1080p) WLED display. The fact that it uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology means we get to enjoy wide viewing angles, deep contrast, and support for a wider color gamut. Media consumption in tablet and tent mode is an enjoyable experience, the colors are vivid and the screen can achieve amazing brightness levels.

Touch input on the Dell Inspiron i5378-5743GRY display is also quite responsive. With all the touch gestures supported by the Operating system and other apps like pinch to zoom, swiping and panning the overall touch experience is fluid and satisfying.

This laptop comes with a decent selection of ports for day to day use. Included is a 3 in 1 SD card reader, HDMI for external display connectivity, an audio/Microphone combo jack, two USB 2.0 ports and two USB 3.0 ports with power share. The lack of USB type C is a bit discouraging but not a biggie considering that this is a budget laptop.

This being a thin and light 2 in 1 budget laptop, you will not get Ethernet connectivity right off the box. This can, however, be added with a cheap USB to Ethernet dongle. These dongles are relatively cheap; some go for as low as $1 on Amazon.

This laptop performs well in a multi-tasking environment without getting too loud or hanging. We had several browser tabs open in chrome as well as documents in excel and other applications and did not witness performance degradation or temperature spikes.

The integrated Intel HD graphics card improves graphics performance including gaming for light titles like StarCraft and Minecraft. Medium titles can be played at low settings but don’t expect frame rates above 30 to 40 fps.
