Modest Design

The design of the Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) is not the most visually appealing in the gaming world. It’s more biased towards simplicity and sturdiness making it look more durable and enhancing its portability. It reminds of the Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad laptops of old that featured extremely durable “bulletproof” designs.

Clevo laptops’ visual design is kind of a marmite affair (you either love it or hate it). Some users will find the simple and functional design appealing as this means they can use it in several environments without raising their eyebrows. While others may find it a bit bland and uninspiring.

Taking a closer look at the exterior this laptop does feature a macro color full-size keyboard with pretty awesome glow effects. The trackpad is off-center and has two physical buttons. Still on the front panel above the 15.6 IPS panel sits a 2.0M FHD Webcam. The bezel around the display is, however, a bit too thick for our taste.

Getting Inside is Easy

The left side of the laptop is where the USB 3.1 port, HDMI, SD card slot, Ethernet, AC power and mini display ports are located. The right side contains one headphone and mic jack, one USB 2.0 port, and one USB 3.0 port. The twin air vents are located at the rear just below the hinge.

Gaining access to the internals of the Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) Gaming Laptop is easy, just remove a few screws. Inside you will find expansion slots including an M.2 slot for additional SSD storage in case you want more storage.

This laptop’s audio is delivered through the Sound blaster cinema 3 audio platforms. This means you get real 3D audio output a great feature for immersive gaming. However, as some things never change do not expect to get stellar audio performance from the inbuilt speakers. If you need positional audio for gaming, then you should grab some gaming headphones or external 5.1 channel speakers.

Full HD Display

The Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) Gaming Laptop reviewed came with a 15.6″ Full HD IPS Display with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels @60Hz (Anti-Glare). This is a pretty decent display that comes with all the perks of IPS display technology like wide viewing angles, rich colors, deep contrast, and excellent brightness levels. The screen is not touch-enabled.

Plenty of Ports

This laptop comes with a wide selection of ports as desired for a gaming laptop. We particularly liked the fact that it provides both USB type A and C ports, therefore, all your current and future devices can easily interface with the Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6). It comes with a 6-in-1 Card Reader and for external display, it has 1 HDMI output Port (with HDCP), 1 Mini DisplayPort 1.3 output Port, 1 Mini DisplayPort 1.2 output Port, this means that you have the ability to connect up to 3 additional external displays!

Other ports include:1 USB 2.0 Port, 1 USB 3.0 Port (Type A), 2 USB 3.1 Ports (1X Type A and 1X Type C), 1 Headphone Jack, 1 Microphone Jack, 1 RJ-45 LAN (10/100/1000Mbps)

Other Features

As mentioned earlier in this review, the Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) has a customizable macro color Back-lit gaming keyboard with a numeric pad. You have the ability to customize the glow and color effects of individual keys to fit your taste. This is an excellent keyboard to game on. The tactility of the keys is impressive and key travel and spacing are okay. The trackpad on the Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) is responsive but ordinary. We recommend an external gaming mouse like the Logitech MX Master 2S for a better gaming experience.

Other Connectivity options

For connectivity, the Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) comes with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 + Bluetooth adaptors and a gigabit Ethernet port capable of 10/100/1000Mbps data transfer speeds.

Excellent Computing Performance

A graphics card is one of the most important components in any gaming laptop. The Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 that has 6GB GDDR5 RAM. This is a very capable chip that was made with a specific type of gamer in mind-open world gamers. The Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad-Core processor is a great companion for this GPU.

For testing, we ran a couple of AAA titles at pretty demanding settings so as to push the hardware as hard as possible. A majority of the games ran at just over 60fps a decent and playable frame rate according to us. Games tested include; Rise of the tomb raider(60fps), Dirt rally(65fps), Witcher 3(60fps) AND GTA 5.

For storage, the laptop comes with a WD 512GB NVMe SSD and 1TB (5400rpm) HDD. We used Crystal disk to check sequential read and write speeds of both the SSD and HDD. The results were quite impressive for the SSD as we registered up to 1800 Mbps read and 1600 Mbps write speeds.

Sager NP7850 battery:

The battery is a decent sized one and as a result offers middling results. It comes packed in a 6-Cell 62WHr battery pack that should give you 5 hours on light web browsing and 3 hours top when really pushing it in gaming.

Worth Every Penny

The Sager NP7850 (Clevo N850HP6) is a real contender among several gaming laptops powered by the NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 1060. With pricing for this configuration at just under $1500, this laptop is in direct contention with the Eluktronics N850HP6 Pro-X Premium Gaming Laptop and others such as the 15.6″ No products found.. However, we think this one is an excellent choice. Keep in mind that Sager NP7850 cooling is decent and the laptops are more customizable than most gaming laptops on the market.
