How to Flip your Screen Through the Settings

Go to display orientation

  • In your laptop, select Start/ Settings/ System. In System, go to the Display section.
  • In the Display section, you will see the following options: “Brightness and color”; “Windows HD Color”; “Scale and Layout”; and “Multiple Displays”. Let’s focus on the “Scale and Layout” option. Go to “Display Orientation”.

Choose your orientation

  • You will see in “Display Orientation” 4 options: Landscape; Portrait; Landscape (Flipped) and Portrait (Flipped).
  • Choose the orientation you need. Landscape is the default horizontal orientation of the display; Portrait is the vertical orientation of the monitor. Landscape (Flipped) is the horizontal orientation with a flip of 90°. Portrait (Flipped) is the vertical orientation with a flip of 90°.

When you choose a different orientation in your display, you can feel a little disoriented or impressed to see how the perspective on your monitor changes. Some OS will show you a warning sign that will ask you to confirm the operation.

If you confirm the operation, the change of orientation is settled. If you don’t confirm the operation, Windows will wait 10 seconds, till getting to the original orientation. Once you’re finished with your flipped view, you can get back to the default orientation, by following the same method applied before.

Choose your orientation

  • Choose the orientation you need. Landscape is the default horizontal orientation of the display; Portrait is the vertical orientation of the monitor. Landscape (Flipped) is the horizontal orientation with a flip of 90°. Portrait (Flipped) is the vertical orientation with a flip of 90°.

How to Flip the Screen of Your 2 in 1 Device

If you have a 2 in 1 device, you’ll probably find yourself flipping your screen automatically, just like your smartphone. If, on the other hand, you want your device to stop doing that you can adjust the settings to change this feature.

On your Settings, in the “Rotation Lock” section, verify if it is “lock” or “unlock”. If its “lock” the screen will not flip while you handle it without a keyboard. On the contrary, if you want it to flip freely, unlock the rotation lock.

How to Flip your Screen with the Action Center.

One alternative way to do the same operation is with the Action Center of your device. The action center is the “caption” figure located in the down-right corner of your device in Windows 10.

  • Click the icon of the Action Center.
  • The Action Center will display a panel of quick access to several settings. Click “rotation lock”. If you active the “rotation lock” the screen will be fixed.

Note: Not all the 2 in 1s devices or laptops have this feature. It requires the Windows Accelerometer, a hardware element that allows the device to sense the physical orientation of the 2 in 1 laptop.
