Design and Features

As with other laptops in Dell’s 15 series we’ve reviewed here on fancyappliance, the overall design of this model is just plain and simple. What is of more interest is the overall build quality in this series of laptops. The Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY carries on the sleek and functional design that we’ve seen from some of its brothers like the Dell Inspiron i5378-0028GRY, Dell Inspiron 7000 i7559 and others in this series.

Overall, build quality is great, and the hinge on this particular model feels quite strong and durable.

Measuring just 15.08 x 15.08 x 10.43 inches and 4.6 pounds, the Dell i5577-7359BLK-PUS isn’t the thinnest and smallest. However, because it’s meant to be a powerful desktop replacement device, it easily passes the portability standards.

Carrying this laptop around in our backpack isn’t uncomfortable, and it nicely slides into our Lacdo 15.6 Inch Water Repellent Fabric Laptop Sleeve Case and Case Logic 15.6-Inch Laptop Case thanks to the sleek and compact design.

The bezels around the 15.6 screen aren’t particularly thin-not to our taste anyway-but they are not too huge as to make this laptop ugly either.

Easily upgradeable

In terms of upgradeability, this laptop lives up to its class as desktop replacements are generally expected to be easy to upgrade. Gaining access to the internals is very easy by removing a few screws. Inside we get an M.2 slot for SSD upgrades and an RAM for an extra 8GB RAM stick.

Other components like the Wi-Fi card aren’t soldered onto the motherboard so pc hardware geeks can easily swap out these components with any of their choice that is compatible with the Dell i5577-7359BLK-PUS.

Other excellent features worth mentioning on the Dell i5577-7359BLK-PUS include-;

The inbuilt speakers-This laptop has some decent sounding internal speakers that also get quite loud. The Realtek ALC3253 audio codec powers the speakers on this series and feature MaxxisAudio pro-technology which produces a rich sound that doesn’t get severely distorted when maxed out.

The webcam-The webcam on the Dell i5577-7359BLK-PUS is decent enough for the occasional Skype calls. It’s also well-positioned at the top.

The most attractive feature on the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 as voted by most users on Amazon and our in-house team of reviewers is the True-life UHD (4K resolution) touchscreen. Not only does it have insane and life-like color reproduction plus contrast, and brightness, this display performs above average on touch sensitivity and accuracy.

The 15.6 Inch UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels display on this laptop shines when it comes to consuming 4k content on YouTube and Netflix.4K encoding is also much improved due to the presence of an Intel Quad-Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor.

If you are coming from any HD display, you will be deeply impressed by the overall picture quality on this high-end touch display. 4K (or Ultra HD) has enough pixels to fill four Full HD 1080p screens. With four times the amount of pixels, it’s able to display four times the level of detail. Pixel density on a 15.6 4K display is something you need to see to believe. Colors look more vivid and life-like.

This display is also a full-blown touch panel which is also a major selling point as Windows 10 comes loaded with touch-optimized interfaces and applications.

Ports

This laptop does not disappoint when it comes to port selection as it comes with all manner of ports and interfaces for all our peripherals. On the right side, we get an SD card slot, a single USB 3.0 port (there’s another one on the other side), an HDMI out port as well as the gigabit Ethernet port. Also on this side is the quintessential Kensington lock interface.

On the left of the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6, next to beautifully designed air vent are two more USB ports and the Audio/Mic combo jack plus the AC power port.

Connectivity on the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 is well taken care of as we get both wireless 802.11 A/C connectivity as well as gigabit Ethernet. This laptop also has a Bluetooth 4.0 card.

Input devices

The keyboard and trackpad on the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY performed quite decently on our comprehensive tests. The keyboard has backlighting for use in a dark environment and feels comfortable to type on. Keys are adequately spaced out, offer a decent amount of key travel, and feel quite tactile.

The trackpad has some red accents around the edges. It feels quite snappy and offers accurate tracking since it’s using windows precision drivers. It’s not great for gaming though, for that you may need a gaming mouse.

Performance

This laptop is powered by a 6th Generation Intel Quad-Core i7 6700HQ with base clock speeds of up to 2.6 GHz and has a dedicated GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB graphics card. Looking at the choice of processor, GPU,4K display and amount of RAM pre-installed, we can easily conclude that the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 is primarily made for creative professionals working on graphics-intensive applications like Maya and Adobe CC that require multiple cores on the CPU and lots of physical memory.

The 4k display is also an excellent choice for this type of user as it provides a level of detail that most professionals dealing with graphics will find invaluable.

Other notable performance components include a fast 128GB SSD on this model that registered read speeds of above 1600mbps on Crystal disk during testing.

As expected, the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 handles heavy applications quite well. Editing and rendering images on Adobe Photoshop and illustrator is smooth and creating 3D graphics on software like blender 3D, and Maya is effortless.

This laptop also works exceptionally well as a daily productivity tool thanks to its quad-core processor. You can run several applications comfortably in a multi-tasking environment without experiencing any significant slowdowns or hanging.

Gaming on the Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY 15.6 is not particularly impressive as the 960M is a bit dated for modern AAA titles and the quad-core CPU is not meant for gaming since most games do not require multiple cores. However, we were able to play various titles like GTA at decent frame rates and stunning color accuracy thanks to the 4k display.

Conclusion

The Dell Inspiron i7559-7512GRY is a fantastic performance laptop at a reasonable price. The Quad-core Intel Core i7 6700HQ and GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB make it perfect for the heavy workloads characteristic of creative applications. This is an excellent companion for power users looking for an affordable day-to-day desktop replacement device.

Battery life is also not that bad as we were able to get around 6 hours of usage on our unit.
