Best Overall: HP Spectre X360-13T

HP Spectre x360 13

If you don’t have time to go through the entire list, this is the laptop you should pick. The HP Spectre X360-13T is not on the budget end but if you are looking for a laptop that crams valuable features into an alluring design, it will not disappoint. This is a 2 in 1 machine meaning you can either use it as a laptop or a PC.

The Spectre X360-13T sports a premium 13.3-inch touch screen with HD display. The screen can rotate at 360 degrees. It comes with a powerful Intel Core processor, generous RAM, and sufficient internal SSD storage.

2019 HP Spectre x360 13t Gem Cut 4K 3840x2160 with...
  • Include Windows 10 Professional Upgrade, HP Premium Warranty, 3 Years McAfee Internet Security Key,...
  • Intel Core i7 8565U (1.8 GHz, up to 4 GHz, 8 MB cache, 4 cores) Whiskey Lake + Intel UHD Graphics...
  • 13.3" diagonal 4K IPS BrightView WLED backlit multitouch enabled edge to edge glass (3840 x 2160),...

The 13.3-inch touch screen is a perfectly convenient size for realtors. Unlike most laptop displays this one went beyond commonplace design and included a rotatable hinge that can flip the screen at 360 degrees.

The High Definition display will treat you to a contenting clarity as you browse the web, edit images or watch videos. The screen is backed by a Corning Gorilla Glass protection to boost its durability.

There’s also a free Stylus Pen which we find more convenient than other options such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 that requires you to buy the pen separately. The pen comes in handy when you want to quickly take notes from your clients.

The HP Spectre X360-13T is powered by an 8th gen Intel core processor. This in combination with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD storage makes this laptop a performance beast. If you crave fast speeds, this laptop will be a worthy investment.

Weighing only 2.78 pounds, the HP Spectre X360-13T is insanely lightweight and a piece of cake to carry around. However, there are lighter options such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 that weighs a mere 1.7 pounds. So if portability is your priority, you might want to consider the latter.

How would you like to work 16 hours straight without having to charge your laptop? That is exactly what the HP Spectre X360-13T’s battery is offering. If you are working with a client outside of the office, a good battery comes in handy. The battery can store power for up to 16 hours or more if you are not actively using it.

Best Cheap Pick: Asus ZenBook 13

Asus ZenBook 13

High-priced laptops come in handy if you are looking for something that will serve you for a long time. However, if you are on a budget or don’t find it necessary to spend a lot on a laptop you will find the Asus ZenBook 13 pocket-friendly. Of course, there are cheaper options but you will miss out on some very helpful features.

Despite the lenient price tag, Asus ZenBook 13’s performance almost parallels that of more high-end laptops. It boasts of fast boot-time, impressive design, and a lightweight body. It is lighter than the Apple MacBook Pro and easy to carry around.

An Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage ensures that you are treated to satisfactory performance speed. You can browse, run the software and multitask without any lagging issues. Sadly, the RAM is not upgradeable but for a realtor, 8GB is sufficient so this is not something you should worry about.

Tipping the scales at 2.6 pounds, the Asus ZenBook 13 is a pretty lightweight machine. The sleek aluminum alloy design adds to its coziness making this a laptop you will be proud to carry around.

There’s a host of connectivity options to enable you to transfer files between devices and access the internet. They include a MicroSD card reader, HDMI, USB type C and Wi-Fi 5 (802.11AC). Although the battery is not as good as those of pricier options, you won’t be caught off-guard if you have a full charge. You should be able to comfortably serve your clients without worrying about the battery draining.

If installing windows gives you cold feet, the Asus ZenBook 13 will save you from that frustration. It comes with a pre-installed Windows 10 which is great for realtors.

Other features we like include the comfortable backlit keyboard and fingerprint scanner. The scanner provides more security and enables you to quickly unlock your laptop. The lack of a touchscreen is a bit inconvenient but tolerable since you are paying less.

Features to Consider in a Laptop for Realtors

A lot of people have problems making sense of all the specs and technical jargon that goes into buying a good laptop. It’s even more problematic for a niche profession like that of a realtor because there are a specific set of features you have to look for.

Realtor pointing at her laptop

If you have no idea what features to prioritize to buy a good laptop for your work, don’t worry. You don’t even need to understand all those specs. Below are the most important ones.

Portability

As a realtor, you probably don’t work from an office most of the time. You’re either meeting clients at coffee shops, giving them a tour of their future home, traveling or just visiting properties. It’s therefore important that you have a laptop you can easily carry around.

All of the laptops we have recommended here are under 5 pounds with MacBook Pro 6 being the heaviest at 4.2 pounds. The rest are under 3 pounds. So if you consider any of our recommendations, you’ll be getting a lightweight design.

Battery life

It would be embarrassing if your laptop’s battery drains while meeting with clients. That’s why you need a laptop with a sturdy battery. You can avoid embarrassment or the inconvenience of having to carry a charger everywhere you go by buying a laptop that has at least 10 hours of battery life.

If you don’t already have one in mind, you can relax and consider any of our recommendations. All the 5 laptops in this list have no less than 10 hours of battery life and would be of great help.

Performance

You won’t need staggering performance but you want to be sure your laptop is not sluggish. Apart from using it for business functions, you might also need it for personal functions like playing games, running software, or watching videos.

We usually consider three things when it comes to performance. That is:

  • RAM
  • CPU
  • Storage

While 256GB storage is not a bad option for a realtor, we prefer laptops with 512GB for improved performance. If you can afford up to 1TB storage that would be terrific. We generally recommend SSD storage as opposed to hard drives. In terms of RAM, we recommend you don’t go below 8GB.

We are big fans of the 16GB option but you don’t need it if you are doing basic real estate tasks.

Opened laptops laid on a wood table

It all comes down to what you mostly do with your laptop. For example, if you do basic tasks like browsing, booking meetings or running light programs, 8GB of RAM is enough. Otherwise, if you plan to run advanced software or just fancy super-fast speeds, you’ll be better off with 16GB RAM. As for the processor, Intel Core i5 is good enough but we recommend a Core i7 for even better performance.

Screen Size

Screen size is a matter of preference but if you’re after portability you might want a smaller size. For office tasks, we recommend any laptop above 15-inches. However, if you want a laptop to carry around while you serve clients, you will be better off with 13 inches and smaller.

Durability

You are busy and you have better things to do than buying a laptop every few months. You can avoid this by prioritizing durability. In case your laptop falls or you accidentally knock it, it should be able to take the hit without any effect on its functionality. Look out for laptops with metal chassis or aluminum bodies such as the Asus ZenBook 13.

Man on his phone with his laptop in front of him

Design

Most realtors may not factor in design when buying a laptop. This is a mistake. A good design can be the difference between being flexible in your job and being clumsy. For realtors, we recommend a convertible design especially if you do a lot of presentations. The HP Spectre X360-13T is an indisputable leader when it comes to convertibility.

The good thing about convertible laptops is that you can use them as standard laptops or tablets. Other design factors to consider include the thickness of the laptop. Thin is always better since it makes the laptop more portable.

Conclusion

Your work as a realtor is already difficult. Don’t add searching for a good laptop to your list of problems. We have done sufficient research and are confident that these laptops will make you a better realtor. We recommend that you check the features we discussed above before buying a laptop.

If you are on a budget, you can consider our more affordable recommendations. Otherwise, if you have the bucks, we recommend that you choose the better performance, higher resolution, longer battery life, durability, and good design.
